The Cairngorm Reindeer Centre

The Cairngorm Reindeer Herd is Britain's only free-ranging herd of reindeer located in the Cairngorm mountains in Scotland. These tame and friendly pets are a delight to all that come and see them. Reindeer are not just for Christmas! There are presently around 150 reindeer in the herd. These mostly ranging on the Cairngorm Mountains with the remainder on the Glenlivet Estate, the areas being some 30 miles apart.


Highland Wildlife Park

The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland was founded in 1909. This was by an Edinburgh legal representative Thomas Gillespie. A visionary and nature lover, in just 4 years he amassed enough assistance and funding to make it possible.  The Society was able to purchase an 85-acre site to the west of Edinburgh, for ₤ 17,000 with assistance from the City of Edinburgh Council.
